We’re building a spectacular new art gallery and making changes online.
The Arts Te Papa website will be shutting down soon, but head to Collections Online to find your favourite works from New Zealand’s national art collection.
You probably have collections of photographs, even if you don’t realise it. Maybe they’re in albums, or on your mobile phone. They mean something specific to you. But what would other people make of them 100 years from now?
Museum collections are full of photographs whose original, personal meanings have been lost. In new contexts, such as this exhibition, new meanings emerge. Collectively, they raise more questions than they answer – and that is their strength. Their meanings can never be exhausted.
The exhibition New Zealand Photography Collected features seven thematic sections. Click the links below to view the works in each section:
This exhibition coincides with the launch of a new Te Papa Press book New Zealand Photography Collected by Te Papa Photography Curator Athol McCredie.
